Respect water

Respect water

As part of the EU programme on sustainable water management in rural Uzbekistan, the NGO Ekomaktab and UzWaterAware organised a youth environmental expedition called “River of life – life of the river” to the Tashkent region.

Journalists, bloggers, students, and volunteers explored the sources of the Chirchik River and directly observed how human activity affects water quality.

The trip included field visits to the Ugam-Chatkal National Park, the Charvak reservoir, the Chirchik River and its tributaries, as well as a meeting with a specialist from the Upper Chirchik hydropower facility.

Water samples taken at several points showed how the river loses its clarity after passing through settlements, recreation areas, and economic activity zones.

The key conclusion was simple: water deserves respect, and broad public outreach through media, visual campaigns, and educational materials remains essential.
