One of the main goals of the study tour to Spain organised under the UzWaterAware project was to understand how agriculture can become “smart”.
Journalists, NGO representatives, and Uzbek specialists visited cities and sites related to water management, agriculture, research, and modern irrigation technologies.
Special attention was paid to the Spanish model of water governance, the role of basin institutions, state regulation, and the close link between science, production, and agricultural modernisation.
The Spanish experience showed that sustainable agriculture depends on water-saving technologies, long-term investment, public reforms, and the willingness of farmers to change their practices.
For Uzbekistan, this experience is especially valuable because similar climatic conditions make it possible to adapt proven solutions in irrigation, water management, and productivity growth.
